Festivities in honour of St. Miguel

The Festivities in honour of Saint Michael take place in the parish of Vila Boa de Quires e Maureles, in the municipality of Marco de Canaveses, and encompass a range of religious and cultural activities rooted in the devotion and tradition of the region. They usually take place in September and are held under the patronage of Saint Michael, venerated as the patron saint of the local community. In 2013, the parish was united with Maureles, forming the current União de Freguesias de Vila Boa de Quires e Maureles.

The Festivities in honour of Saint Miguel take place in Rio de Galinhas, in the heart of the parish of Vila Boa de Quires e Maureles, in the municipality of Marco de Canaveses. This is a land of contrasts that complement one another, where the Romanesque of the Igreja de Santo André coexists with the contemporary lines of the Igreja de Santa Maria, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira. It also holds the curious chapter of the Obras do Fidalgo, a manor house left unfinished that marks the landscape and the local imagination. At the table, roast lamb and the ever-present salt cod reign supreme, served with the warmth of those who treat every guest as one of their own.
