Santa Cruz is located on the southern coast of the island of Madeira, to the east of Funchal, stretching from the Atlantic shoreline to the ridges of the interior. The territory encompasses parishes of quite distinct character: Caniço and Santa Cruz, facing the sea, and Santo António da Serra, at considerable altitude, with a unique microclimate and a landscape of pine woodland. Camacha is renowned for its centuries-old tradition of wicker basketry, a craft that still defines the identity of the village today.
