Lousada is located in the District of Porto, in the heart of Entre-Douro-e-Minho, in a landscape of gentle hills, agricultural fields and watercourses that have shaped centuries of rural life. The Municipality received its royal charter in 1514, granted by King D. Manuel I, becoming part of the network of lordships and territories that dotted this fertile region. Today it comprises fifteen parishes, ranging from places of deep agricultural tradition to settlements that preserve traces of a medieval past.
