Autumn Festival in the Garden

The Festa de Outono no Jardim is promoted by the Junta de Freguesia de Loures and takes place in the Jardim Major Rosa Bastos, in the parish and municipality of Loures. It is a celebration of the autumn season, conceived to bring the community together and provide moments of conviviality and outdoor leisure. More than a festival with documented ancient roots, it is a community gathering in which neighbours come together in a public space of the parish to share their time and local traditions, in a municipality where festive life and pilgrimage festivals have, indeed, an important place.

Loures is a land of ancient memory, whose name first appears in writing in 1118, and today is the political and administrative heart of the municipality that bears its name. A saloio people, with hardworking hands, made this land the granary and vegetable garden of Lisbon, and were present at decisive moments in Portugal's history, from the Republic of 1910 to the Carnation Revolution of 1974. It is a culture of fairs, wines and generous flavours, from Bean Soup to Cozido Saloio, rounded off by unique confections such as the Amorzinhos de Loures. In the Jardim Major Rosa Bastos, the Festa de Outono brings to the fore that saloio spirit which refuses to disappear.
