Póvoa de Varzim is located on the northern coast of the District of Porto, where the Atlantic coastline shapes an identity deeply rooted in the sea and the people who lived from it. The Municipality received its first royal charter from King D. Dinis in 1308, and a second royal charter from King D. Manuel in 1514, establishing itself over the centuries as a land of seafarers and traditions that time has carefully preserved.
