Cinfães stretches along the southern bank of the Douro, at the foothills of Montemuro, among vineyards on terraced slopes and villages that time has barely touched. It was here, the chronicles tell us, that D. Afonso Henriques spent his childhood in the care of Egas Moniz — and it was also from here that Serpa Pinto set out, the explorer who crossed Africa from coast to coast. A municipality that knows how to be river and mountain range at once, with a royal charter dating from 1513.
