Castro Daire is located in the northern interior of the District of Viseu, nestled between the Serra do Montemuro and the Serra do Leomil, and crossed by the river Paiva. It is a territory of high plateaus, granite villages and deep valleys where the water runs cold throughout the year. The Municipality comprises sixteen parishes spread across a rugged landscape that has shaped, over centuries, the way of life of its people, bound to mountain farming, shepherding and forestry.
