Azambuja lies at the northern tip of the District of Lisboa, on the right bank of the Tejo, in a fertile plain where the river shapes both the landscape and daily life. The name derives from zambujeiro, the wild olive tree that once covered these lands. In 1200, D. Sancho I granted the first royal charter to the town, marking the beginning of a history that spans eight centuries. The Municipality brings together parishes such as Alcoentre, Aveiras de Baixo, Aveiras de Cima and the palace of Manique do Intendente, each with its own memory.
